Maintenance Projects
Major maintenance projects that amounted to M33, 293,535.00 were carried out to address the ageing network.

1. Switchgear at LEC Border Substation and Five Switching Stations in Maseru
The scope included replacement of old 6 switchgears at LEC Border, 9 switchgears at SW06, 5 switchgears at Government Complex, 4 switchgears at Half Moon, 5 switchgears at SW03 and 4 switchgears at SW15 and the contract amount was M9, 866,648.63.





2. The Assessment and Maintenance of Power Transformer On-Load Tap Changers (OLTC) For Lesotho Electricity Company
The scope of the contract was to assess, test and maintain 59 transformer OLTC’s, replacements of un-repairable OLTC’s, supply and replacement of oil including oil sampling & analysis and the contract amount was M14, 863 037.51.






3. Civil Works Phase IV For LEC Substations
The scope include replacement of dilapidated roofing, ceiling, painting, plastering, doors, windows, storm water drainage, equipment plinths, cracked walls, fencing and substation crushed stones for LEC substations throughout the country and the contract amount was M4, 028 658.87.


4. Upgrading of 11kV lines
The upgrading was done on 9km Ramachine to Cana, 2.9km Ha Sekhukhuni to TY Sewerage Ponds and 6km Leribe Moreneng to Levi`s nek 11kV lines to accommodate load growth and to replace dilapidated poles. The contracts amounted to M1,433,990.00.


5. 33kV and 11kV NECRT’s and 11/0.4kV Mini-substations
The 33kV and 11kV NECRTs were procured to replace faulty units at Litšoeneng, Mazenod and St Agnes substations and the contract amount was M2, 691 480.47. The upgrading of supply was done by installing mini-substations at Christie House, Mothamo house and Thulo.

In order to achieve the company strategic goal of increasing customer base, LEC (through Planning and Project Department) with the financial assistance of the Government of Lesotho undertakes implementation of the electrification projects. The following table shows projects that were implemented 2014/15.
